Paros

Paros, a little Greek island. We have learned that there are more than 6,000 Greek islands!!! 6,000!!!! They are dotted all over the sea here, it’s pretty amazing. Only a bit more than 270 are inhabited and Nick and I have now visited 3. We stayed on Paros Sunday and Monday, about a 3 hour ferry from Athens. From there, we ferried 3 more hours to our final destination, Santorini. Paros was chosen by us as a midpoint to avoid a 6+ hour ferry ride straight to Santorini and I’m so glad we stopped!! It was beautiful! As soon as we got off the ship and into our hotel room, we headed straight to the beach. The resort gave free beach chairs with a 3€ order, awesome!! In Rome, at the beach, we paid 30€ (ugh!) for the same basic beach chairs and an umbrella. We were so desperate for the beach at that point. So imagine, free chairs with a drink purchase, yes please! We would have gotten a drink anyway! So, you get it, we loved Paros from the beginning. We spent a nice day on the beach, I took a nap then Nick took one and at about 6:30 p.m. we headed back to the hotel. We showered up and headed out to dinner.

We weren’t sure what we wanted for dinner and we had had lunch so late we just walked and walked, to the edge of town which really only took 15-20 minutes, lol. We found a cute bar in an old windmill and stopped for a drink. It was really hard to get a good picture so you have to imagine us under a huge windmill with a cocktail, looking over the town, so nice!

Also, we have recently become totally obsessed with gyro pitas. As I write this, we are on a streak of 4 consecutive meals of gyro pitas. They are super easy which is great because we always scramble for lunch as we have woken up late and I’m pressuring Nick to “Gooo!”. He takes 2x as long as me to rouse in the morning and get ready. I can only take so much!!! So we quickly grab pitas and get on with the days activities. Then at night, they just sound so good! Gyro meat (chicken, lamb or pork) with tzatziki sauce, tomato, onion and french fried in a warm pita…. It’s so good! Also, it only costs like 2,50€. We know we could be fine dining but we have been having so much fun doing other things. So Monday night we had a delicious gyro at like 11:15 p.m. and then fell asleep happy with full bellies. That was Monday.

Tuesday, we woke up ( late πŸ˜•) and went to rent a buggy. It was Nick’s idea and so fun!! We traversed the island, saw so many beaches and a few of the other villages. There was Nauossa, a party town with a little fortress. A beach just around the bay with really cool rock sculptures, naturally carved. A small town, Lefkes (the highest point on the island) with windy alley streets and so much bougainvillea. We drove to one more beach where we heard you could take a mud bath but we didn’t see any mud or anyone doing it so we kept moving on πŸ˜•. It was a truly great day.

We then showered up, I put on the white Grecian dress Nick bought me and took the buggy to a ferry to another island, Antiparos, it was much easier than it sounds. Nick wanted to see the sunset so we walked through town, across the island to “Sunset Beach” and it totally delivered. It was awesome!! Yes, we had gyro pitas for dinner, the best ones yet! Then watched a little World Cup and took the ferry back to the buggy.

We had a few hours driving around on Wednesday morning before we jumped on the ferry Santorini, where we currently are.
